Content Policy

AnyScience is a professional network for people with an interest in science: researchers, students, laboratory staff, industry professionals, people who work with science, science enthusiasts or people who simply want to understand science better. Whoever you are, you belong here. These guidelines describe the conduct we expect. By using AnyScience you agree to follow them; they form part of our User Agreement.

Our principles

  • Be safe — keep yourself and others safe from harm, harassment and abuse.
  • Be trustworthy — share accurate information and maintain research integrity.
  • Be professional — engage respectfully and keep content about science.
  • Respect rights — honour intellectual property, privacy and applicable laws.

1. Be safe

No violence or threats. Do not post content that threatens, incites, glorifies or expresses desire for violence against any person or group. This includes threats of physical harm, content that encourages dangerous activities, and material depicting gratuitous violence.

No harassment or bullying. Do not engage in harassment, bullying, intimidation or targeted abuse of any individual. This includes persistent unwanted contact, coordinated attacks, content designed to humiliate or degrade others, and abuse of platform features to harass users.

No hate speech. Do not attack, demean, or incite discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or serious medical condition. Good-faith discussion of these topics for scientific or educational purposes is permitted. Content that uses scientific or academic framing to demean, attack or incite discrimination against a group is not, whatever its form. Intent is judged from the content and its context; invoking a scientific or educational purpose in bad faith is itself a violation of these guidelines.

No harmful or dangerous content. Do not share content that promotes or enables causing self-injury or harm, or causing injury or harm to others. You are responsible for complying with the laws and obligations that apply to what you publish — including export-control, dual-use, biosecurity and research-ethics rules, and any confidentiality, embargo or publication obligations you owe to your institution, funder, publisher, employer, a government, or any other party. Where the law or such an obligation restricts publication of a method or a result, that restriction applies on AnyScience as anywhere else. Responsibility for any breach of those laws or obligations rests with the person who posted the content, not with AnyScience.

Protecting minors. We have zero tolerance for any content that sexually exploits or endangers minors. This includes child sexual abuse material, grooming behaviour, and any sexualisation of minors. We report such content to the authorities as required by law.

2. Be trustworthy

Use your real identity. Use your real name and truthful information about who you are, what you do and what you know. You do not need a title, a degree or an affiliation to belong here; you only need to be honest about which of them you have. Do not impersonate others or create fake profiles.

No misinformation. Do not share content you know to be false or misleading, particularly if it could cause harm to public health, safety or democratic processes. Scientific debate and discussion of contested findings is encouraged; deliberate spread of known falsehoods is not.

Disclose conflicts of interest. When sharing research or opinions, disclose relevant financial relationships, funding sources or other conflicts of interest that could be perceived as influencing your position.

Research integrity. Because AnyScience hosts research, we expect research integrity from everyone who shares it. The following constitute serious violations:

  • Fabrication: making up data, results or sources and recording or reporting them as genuine.
  • Falsification: manipulating research materials, equipment or processes, or changing or omitting data such that the research is not accurately represented.
  • Plagiarism: appropriating another person's ideas, processes, results or words without giving appropriate credit.
  • Misrepresentation: falsely claiming authorship, credentials, affiliations or research contributions that are not yours.

Research integrity violations may result in content removal or account suspension. Honest error or legitimate differences of scientific opinion do not constitute research misconduct.

3. Be professional

Keep it about science. Keep your posts, comments and messages relevant to science, research, education, professional development or the science community. AnyScience is a place for science, and we should like to keep it one. Posts and content outside science, and in particular politically radical, disputed, charged or hostile debate, do not belong here.

No spam or platform manipulation. Do not post spam, engage in coordinated inauthentic behaviour, use bots or automated tools to manipulate engagement, or attempt to game platform features. Do not send unsolicited bulk messages or promotional content.

No inappropriate content. Do not post sexually explicit content, gratuitously graphic material, or content that is excessively shocking or offensive. Content should be appropriate for professional settings.

Respectful disagreement. Scientific discourse often involves disagreement and debate. Critique ideas, methods and conclusions respectfully. Personal attacks, ad hominem arguments, and hostile or inflammatory language have no place here.

4. Respect rights

Intellectual property. Respect the intellectual property rights of others. Do not share copyrighted material without permission or proper licensing. Give appropriate credit when referencing or building on the work of others. See our Copyright Policy.

Privacy. Do not share private information about others without their consent, including personal contact information, private communications, unpublished research data, confidential peer-review content or other sensitive information. See our Privacy Policy.

Legal compliance. Do not use AnyScience for any illegal purpose or to facilitate illegal activity. Comply with all applicable laws, including export-control regulations, research-ethics requirements, institutional policies, and any restriction on publishing controlled scientific information.

5. How we enforce these guidelines

We review content that is reported to us or that otherwise comes to our attention. Where we find a violation of these guidelines, our User Agreement or the law, we may warn you, remove or restrict content, limit features, or suspend or close your account, in proportion to the severity and context. We may report illegal activity to the authorities.
